As part of a long-term programme of refurbishment of its common learning spaces, the University of Southampton wanted to replace the accumulated mismatching seating with a single style of chair.
But what to choose? Rather than impose a solution, the university allowed the students to decide.
Different brands and styles of seating were brought in for trial, at the end of which the students voted in favour of the HÅG Conventio Wing chair, which was recommended and supplied by Office Environments.
The HÅG Coventio Wing 9831 and 9832 are now the university’s standard chairs of choice for all refurbished and newly-built common learning spaces.
The chair’s built-in tilt mechanism inspires and encourages movement, improving the user’s blood flow and mental performance. The upholstered seat and wing-shaped back won big marks for style and ergonomic efficiency.
The chair also scored well for durability, warranty terms (they come with a 10-year guarantee) and environmental credentials.
To date, almost 2,500 chairs have been supplied, each carrying a stitched ‘Common Learning Space’ motif to identify them.
